[Review] Encore mDSD (dac/amp) - a new pocket rocket to make you hum
Apr 16, 2017 at 2:51 AM Post #106 of 130
Are you sure it's static and not something from the cabling or casing being bumped around? What would happen if you put the mDSD into a little ziploc bag or something? just a random though, as this seems like very strange behaviour and static does not typically jump without a path to flow (so I wouldn'tt expect it to happen inside a pocket... but who knows).

What's the maximum data output capabilities of the SPDIF bridge in PCM and DSD terms? Is DSD Native or DoP over the SPDIF bridge?

I believe it is DoP and I *think* the limit is 24/96 as that is the typical limit of optical spdif, but it would be best to ask @jasonl

Encore mDSD can output 24bit/192kHz to optical for PCM and DoP64 (DSD64 over PCM).
It can decode 32bit/384kHz for digital to analog output. The digital output is limited by what optical can transmit.

I just bought this to use with my iPhone 7 Plus. It works if I connect it via apple usb 3 to lightning adapter, however it doesn't work as soon as I remove the power cable. I phone doesn't recognise it without additional power :frowning2:

It works for me. You have to plug it in before you turn on your phone/screen.

How well does the headamp of this thing drive full sized high impedance headphones compared to, say, an udsd, NextDrive Spectra or the Dragonfly Red?

40 mW at 32 Ohms isn't a very promissing indicator...

40mw will drive most portable type headphones and iems to dangerous ear splitting levels.

But If you're spending the money on a full sized high impedance low sensitivity headphone that gobbles watts of power, then don't shortchange yourself and get a proper sized amp. I say this as one of the nutjobs with an HE-6 driven off a speaker amp.

I just bought an mdsd. It does not work for me with windows. I can not find any drivers anywhere. No luck with my android phone either. It improves sound quite a bit but I get this horrible stutter ever 10-20 seconds.
