Review and impressions thread: Beat Audio Cronus and Supreme Rose cables for custom IEMs

Even though it doesnt sit flushed, theres no problem wif the sound, so i juz let it be, cause it really cant go in anymore no matter how i try to force it in

but my concern is, it seems a much tighter fit compared to es2, so im not entirely sure whether would it widen the socket holes, such that in the future if i put in es2, it would be too loose

Here is to my first post!

I just received my 1.5m Cronus cables for my Sennheiser IE 8's (Comply T-500 foam tips) with the ViaBlue 3.5mm jack. Stephen at Unique Melody was very helpful/patient with my emails as I took the plunge for a 2nd purchase of custom cables (1st being Moon Audio Blue Dragon Sennheiser HD650).

When I upgraded my HD650 cables, I felt like I was tossing another log on a campfire for more warmth that could be fully felt at the distance right for me. However, the change from IE 8 stock cables to the Cronus was a completely different experience. I was expecting the same boost in warmth, but instead imagined myself cleaning caked dirt off textured rocks in a stream.

I wondered if I was feeling a loss of bass, but I think I'm just perceiving more detail with a little less boom. I don't mind the change because I don't care for much portable boom. I switch to my HD650s for late night, and let my 41kg sub-woofer boom during more appropriate city hours. I'm sure my source might be limiting my perspective, but my mid ranged gear feels decent enough to me which is all that matters. Hopefully, my 8 years of 4/4 Tuba Orchestral Training helps with my audio opinion.

Pic to eventually maybe follow!

Edit: I wear glasses and contacts, and I enjoy the "memory wire."

A little heads-up for those who have a pair of 1964 EARS with recessed sockets and are planning to get the Beat Audio Cables:

Make sure that when you guys order, tell them (Stephen) that you have such 1964 phones and have them make the sockets more recessed than their regular JH-recessed. 1964 EARS somehow makes the recessed sockets about 2 mm. more recessed than the regular recessed sockets. I had to find a local specialist to help make it more recessed, turned out fine though. Just giving the heads-ups so you guys can save some time and money from going about fixing it.

But all else, my Supreme Elegance cable is AWESOME.

Thanks for the info, that could be helpful.

Thanks again for the great reviews of the Beat Audio cables and also for letting me borrow them.  I have started a thread where you can read my thoughts of the Beat Audio cables as well as some others here.  Enjoy!

Thanks for this review, I'm going to get the Supreme Rose cable with the Merlins when the group buy comes through. I simply hate memory wire and the Supreme Rose seems like the perfect solution, plus it looks pretty dope.

So project86 loaned me his Beat Audio cables for around a month with the only requirements being to write my opinion on them in this thread whether good or bad.

The Beat Audio cables are my second experience with custom cables for customs and the other being a DIY silver cable made by another head-fi member. I had the UM stock cable, Westone ES cable with my 1964 Ears 1964-T and Unique Melody LW3X6 where the 1964-T is a 3 driver model and the LW3X6 is a 6 driver model. Both models are quite good and better than any universal I've heard with the 6 driver being a good amount better than the 3 driver.

I am one of those people who feel that custom cables have uses other than sound. They can be bought because they look nice or if you want something more functional than the stock cable such as the strain relief, having a different termination into balanced, better microphonics, etc. If there is any sound changes then that is an added bonus.

I found both cables to be nice in terms of build quality except for them being showing the user how it has been stored so if you have it wrapped up and stored for a while then it will be difficult to use the cable on the go because of that. I found the Supreme Rose to be worse than the Cronus in that regard. Both of the cables had a section right after the pins to be where the ES and UM cable have their memory wire. The good thing is that there is some tubing there but no memory wire so it is easier for me as a glasses user since it doesn't rub against my glasses making sounds whenever I move and thus not as annoying as the stock cable. Both cables overall have good build quality and found no problems using them outside on the go.

My testing used the following setups:

1) Samsung SGS > customs
2) Netbook> UHA4 > customs
3) Laptop > Yulong D100 > customs
4) Laptop > Yulong D100 > PPAv2 > customs
5) Laptop > Keces DA151 MK2 > PPAv2 > customs

I listened to songs that I know very well in the best format that I had available which usually is 16/44.1 FLAC. Unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet) I was unable to hear any difference between my stock cables and the Beat Audio cables no matter how hard I tried. As a matter of fact I did try using just the custom cables for a few days then switching and still found no difference to my ears. I find that my D100 dac/amp is a very good source for customs so that is not the case so I do not believe it is an aspect of my setup since people do hear differences on lesser setups but I was not able to hear any differences.

I know this is pretty short but I really wasn't able to find any sonic difference between my stock cables and the Beat Audio cables so there really isn't much to add here. I do find value in after market cables if people want to buy them for cosmetic purposes or if they wanted to use their customs on a different termination such as a balanced termination for one of those balanced portable amps but if the Beat Audio cables are any indication of the sonic differences between stock and custom cables then I do no hear a difference but I did in fact try for around a month before I sent them back and was unable to find anything.

I do want to thank project86 for allowing me to borrow them for a month and also not try to persuade me one way or another of his opinion.

I have "Silver sonic" - Beat Audio, had some problems with the cable.
It broke after some weeks with sennheiser plug, i  contacted Unique Melody.
Got really great service they sent me new with no charges and was told that sennheiser plug doesnt work great with the cable, so now it remove from order list :).
The problem is that its break again after about 6 months with yarbo plug, so i just send a mail again to UM and see what happends.
Other then that i like the cable.

That's too bad. Are you dealing with Stephen at Custom-iem.com, or UM Australia, or ?
