I will soon be using an XP-7 exclusively, and my phones are the ER4-S. I've been thinking about reterminating the plug with the Cardas GRQ S S plug, using Cardas Quad Eutectic Solder and W3B2(4X) heatshrink.

Is this going to be a worthwhile upgrade over just using the 1/8" - 1/4" adapter that comes with the ER4-S?

I dont see why you cant. However do keep in mind that amps are bound to breakdown at some point in their life, so why not just keep the 1/8 plug and use the 1/8 > 1/4 adapter

yeah, and plus the bigger plug will make your fragile etys quite heavy.
