I just bought HD650 from J&R. I have read that there are 2 versions of the HD650, the older one which has a little muddier sound and the new ones that sound much brighter. I forgot to ask but do you guys think the ones I bought will be the newer version ?

I'm sure the ones I'm listening to right now, the ones I love every day they are on my head are the, "old" and they rock.
Hopefully you will appreciate them like I have, regardless.

never been able to get it on the cheap.
sette wit DT880 for now.
 
I like the so-called older version better.
I'm easily fatiqued with prolonged bright sound.
probably due to my young ears.

New or old version, I doubt they are any less great.

I just want to check to see if anyone knew when they stopped making the older ones cause I really want to get the newer version. I will probably return or exchange them for the newer version if I can.

I ordered a pair of HD650 from J&R almost 2 years ago and they are the "new" version.  The old version was discontinued quite a while ago.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, good to know. Can't wait to get them, this will be my first pair of Hi-fi headphones and the LD MKIVse should be here by the time the 650 arrives.

Not altogether a joke though as these phones get better as you go along, so it's hard to say when they've reached peak. I've had mine over two years and I'll swear they sound better now than 12 months ago.
