This games seems like more of show-off piece of what Capcom is capable of. The way the objects are textured seems extremely detailed. This one seems more like a visual art piece than being gameplay focused. When I think of good Resident Evil gameplay, I think of the new remake of RE2 and 3.

Tech aspects aside, I think that Capcom wanted to make a RE game similar to RE4, as in: packed with action, with weapon upgrades, meerchants etc.

I played 4, and at the time it was technically impressive, but I stopped playing midway through because I lost interesting. The gameplay wasn't interesting enough. The best gameplay of the series was RE 1-3. I found them very engaging with puzzle elements. They were really well thought out.

RE8 just showing off flashiness.

Honestly, after finishing RE 8, the game wasn't THAT bad... And I effectively felt some RE 4 vibes.

It just that some things in the game seems really stupid ( the way Ethan fixes his hand, really? ), the puzzle are WAY too easy, and the game design is bad. Honestly, why giving people a entire map to roam if they can't chose in which order they want to do the bosses?

Final boss was also kinda meh, I hoped for something better...

It was supposed to be similar to RE4, but I think this one is still the best RE when it comes to action.

Agreed. Capcom wanted to make the latest RE approachable if not casual.

My thoughts exactly. It introduced the sensation of false freedom, which for game designs based on open maps and exploration is counterproductive.

Lady Dimitrescu was the biggest disappointment for me. It was known from the start that she wasn't crazy important, but I had hoped for at least few proper fights with her.

Personally, I wish they go back to the way they developed RE 1-3. If I wanted action, I would go elsewhere. I like the way the key system and puzzles were done in the first 3, and the zombie interactions feeling much threatening than just run & gun action. Acting was terrible, but I'm ok with that since the gameplay was so engaging.

That's not coming back I'm affraid. As far as the future of the RE series goes, I think we'll see only FPS games and scares fit for that perspective. Still, I miss that fixed camera and moving around the walking dead just as you do :)

I agree about it being more technical.

The gameplay was just okay, like a more modern and recessed version of Resident Evil 4 with the chances of RE 7. It took me like 5 hours to actually start enjoying playing it, and not looking at it. Lady Dimitrescu was the most boring part despite the castle being so fun.
Story was hot trash, even if you see it as "they're just tributing to the 90s". Lady Dimitrescu ended up being a boring narcissist whose role was just to be a tutorial boss. And the other villains were even worse.

Graphics were fantastic, though.

She was scary at first, but her mechanics are rather poor and easily exploitable, so she quickly stops being any threat.

Not the best boss roster in that game, yes.

Yeah. And I thought the thing with the arm wasn't shocking at all. Maybe it's me being a fan of The Walking Dead... It's pretty wild that a show on TV was able to have character loosing arms, dying all over, et cetera but Resident Evil 8 couldn't loose the arm for real. It happens but then he... puts it back immediately like I'm supposed to just accept it 🤣 It would have been fun to have some gameplay without the arm, then explain why he can do it.

I personally hate this RE, the point of view is so narrow, together with that horror senses. The game give you motion sickness like nothing else and physically a gut punch in the stomach. Honestly, I almost vomited a couple times by starting this damn game 🤣
