Fellow Head-fiers, a repost fr me earlier fr the headphones section:

Alright im a newbie, need some help here. Ok I have 2 headphones, an unamped AKG 271 and ATH A900, played from my PC using a creative audigy2 zs platinum pro. Was playing some live jazz music, turns out that AKG271 sounded clearer, more soothing and alluring compared to the A900, which seemed to have some noise in the backgrd(AKG 271 doesnt). Am I supposed to expect tt? tot the A900 was supposed to sound better... starting to wonder if my AKG 271 is better after all for jazz and classical music... anything wrong with my setup or anything? Will appreciate yr comments, thanks

Different headphones can have different sounds, and some can sound better for some types of music then others. You may simply prefer the AKG sound to the AT sound for classical and jazz.

Now, if you want to upgrade your soundcard you should check out the regular reccomendations: Chaintech AV-710 for $25, EMU 0404 for $100 ($85 at Guitar Center, if you bargain the price down), EMU 1212m for $200 ($165 at Guitar Center if you bargain the price down), Modded EMU 1212m for about $350. If you want to spend more than a modded 1212m costs you should really start looking at external DACs, as the price/performance ratio of soundcards takes a big dive after that. Also, all those cards will reaquire some form of amplification.
