Replacing Z-2300s, I need good speakers for the basement...

Does anyone have any experience with the Audioengine A2's?

They look pretty good...good enough to pack in a bag for an extended hotel room stay (they even come with travel bags for that purpose), and when at home, use for computer speakers.

Traveling, I'd be coming out of the iPod or headphone out on my company laptop. At home, I'd be hooking them up via the DAC out on the Compass.

I know the A5's would blow their doors, have more bass, have better overall sound etc...but I'd like to have something I could travel with.

Thanks!

Do you not have an old receiver lying around? If your dad blew a z2300 sat, he obviously wants room-filling sound. Grab a used receiver (HT is find) and some bookshelves on craigslist or the like - you can probably find an adequate combo for under $300 that will blow most powered multimedia options away.
