I bought an Onkyo DP-X1A in August of last year, and after several months of use, I can say that I am not really fond of it. That said, I am looking to replace it with something else.

1) What would be a comparable digital audio player to the Onkyo DP-X1A?

2) What would be the logical step up from the Onkyo DP-X1A?

Id like to offer my opinion. What kind of headphones do you run? Because depending on that it could impact your recommendation. Are you also only using this for mobility or also an impromptu desktop solution?

That being said for something along the same price line, look into the FiiO X7 mark II. I have the fiio x5 gen 3, and was contemplating the x7II myself but was under budget constraints at the time. However i dont regret the x5 gen 3, it serves me well for now.
