So this happened:

Is anybody aware of what I could do in terms of replacing the headband on my 650s? I mean the phones themselves are in fine condition.

Kinda disappointing, not like I've abused them or anything. The band just snapped when I was taking them off my head.

Yeah I thought about that. These are from 2006 so they are not exactly a new pair. Doubt Sennheiser would feel obligated to do anything about it, but maybe I should mail them.

I just put a new HD600 headband on some HD580 that I bought broken. The HD650 headband is in the neighborhood of $95, if I remember correctly. The HD600 piece was like $78. You get a new complete piece from the bails up. Really easy install. You will have to call to order.

It's out of warranty? The other option is to send them in for repair. Check their site: http://www.sennheiserusa.com/serviceandsupport_repair

Flat rate repair for HD650 is $65. That looks like the way to go.

You buy a new band from Sennheiser via your dealer; and yes it is expensive...

The headband on my HD650 broke last August (I bought mine new in 2006 too...). Total price, including shipping, for a replace band was $56.50. I suggest calling them and talking to whomever is actually in their service department instead of trying to order the part online (i'm pretty sure it's more expensive online but I don't remember for sure).

Putting it all together is incredibly easy. It's both awesome that you can replace pretty much anything on HD650/etc. yourself and disappointing in that this stuff is a bit of overpriced. It still sounds great, though!

Edit: Just realized that you're outside the US. No idea what the price'll be like, but I still think your best (or at least initial) option should be to give the local headquarters a call: http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/0service-partner?Open&country=Finland
