Well my HD580's were stolen so I'm in the market for some new headphones. I really liked the HD580's both for the sound and the comfort level. I wear glasses and I could wear the HD580's for hours with no discomfort at all.

Because I use these at work I'm thinking about replacing them with some closed headphones instead. Sound and comfort for long periods are the priority and I hate the ear-canal style. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Ron

IMO you'll have trouble equalling the HD580 comfort factor with closed phones (particularly in the summer, as it gets warmer). I'd go for another pair of 580s, or maybe 600s instead.

The big problem is that I'm moving into an office with three other people. Ugh.

I've got to go back to full time, this contracting stuff is starting to suck.

If you really like the sound and comfort of the 580s, I agree that you'll have a hard time finding closed headphones to equal that. However, if you're really interested in something closed, I suggest checking out the Beyerdynamic DT250-250 or DT250-80. They provide a very good amount of isolation for a normal office environment. They are comfortable in my opinion, but in a snug way, which tranlates to a clamping feeling for some people, so ymmv. The earpieces are tall and narrow (more like Senns, but not as large), so they work well with my glasses. They also have velour earpads instead of (p)leather... while they might get warm they don't feel sweaty and sticky.

I don't know how the clamping force is on the K271s, but the pleather pads on my K240S are by no means uncomfortable.

I agree with SLCHANG that the Beyerdynamic 250 series is worth a listen. I've got the 250-80's and enjoy the they beyerdynamic's sound, esp. for rock music. There is nice impact on bass, but it is not artificial sounding - seems pretty coherent with the rest of the frequency distribution.

They are tighter on the head than my senn 580's, but not uncomfortably so. I think the material used on the fabric cusions is similar on both, but the sennheiser cushion is larger, as SLCHANG mentioned.

Try CD3K.

I found them far more comfy than HD600, they leak outside less sound than HD600, and their "sound signature" definetly worth a listen.

I'm speaking as a person who used to Sennheiser sound for more than 5 years.

CD3k has ultimate comfort but at a certain point it starts to leak sound unless it sucks on to your head perfectly. Man you can't really replace the HD-580s if you want pure comfort and value. I would try the A900s as well. Look into these cans and see if they leak that much sound.
