I'm having issues with the connector on my Sony 7506's. I can see the connector is bent from use and the tip and ring connectors are starting to separate from the green dividers a bit.
What's the best way to unscrew the connector to get inside to either desolder/resolder the leads if I wanted to do that?
 
I'm told the gold part should unscrew from the black - but I can't do it by hand and using  a leatherman or some other crude clamp has proved quite difficult.
anyone have any luck getting this to unscrew?

It is probably a moulded shell on the connector. Best cut it off and replace it with a new one.

hmm I've seen one unscrewed before - so it is possible. I just can't figure out how without destroying the threads on the connector.

My bad, apparently it does come apart... I guess there is a bit of hot glue on the threads and you have to heat it up and then it will turn off...
