Lets say I have 5 CD's bought from the iTunes store, and they are 128 AAC. I have checked both here via query and in iTunes but I can not find how to upgrade them to 256 AAC. Can someone help? thanks.
The upgrading is pretty easy to do, but a little tricky to set up IMHO at first... The first step is finding out if the albums you purchased @ 128 are available for upgrade.
1. Go to the iTunes store and click on the 'Account' link in the right column. Log In if prompted.
2. Once on the Apple Account Information page, you should see a box at top labled: iTunes Plus. Click on the [Manage iTunes Plus] button.
3. Check the box that says "Always show me iTunes Plus music and videos when available." Click the [Save Changes] button.
4. Now go back to the iTunes homepage and click on the 'iTunes Plus' link in the top right hand column.
5. Once this page loads it should provide you with alternate 256 versions of any albums you have previously downloaded. This information will be found in a blue box on the upper right corner of this page that reads "Upgrade My Library"
The above process is correct if you're CD was issued by the EMI group of recording companies. Hopefully, more companies will follow and make this a moot point. Universal has followed EMI in this initiative, but given their fued with Apple, they aren't making it available on Itunes. If your CD is not from EMI, you are really out of luck. Can't make 128 = 256 no matter the equipment/software you may have. I stopped purchasing Itunes music and won't buy in the future until I can download at 256K.
Yeah, I ran into exactly the same problem... I am sitting here wanting to upgrade my tunes, but nothing I had bought qualifies...
What is nice about the whole 256 downloads at iTunes is that there are videos online now that are the higher quality also and I think they are same price too, now to figure out if anything I listen to is on EMI.
The issue with Universal sure seems to be more of an experiment for them rather than anything else.
From what I have read so far, it just sounds like a bunch of suits were sitting around a board room and decided it would be a neat experiment to see how much they are actually selling through iTunes by NOT selling on there... or something like that I kind of think sort of.
