My ear pads have started to crumble and I would like to replace them with a velour set. I haven't seen anything other than cheap ebay pads. Are there any other options? Also I know changing ear pads can change the sound signature. Is there a general rule of what a thicker pad will do?

Looks like I’m going with a velour set from the AudioTechnicha ad700x. Reached out to their parts department and they said it was the closest model that had Velour. They wouldn’t garuntee a perfect fit but I’m fairly positive the framing is almost identical.

The pads of my ATH-A700X completely crumbled away after 6 years. AT Benelux sells an original replacement pairs for 35 euros. They say they cannot do anything about the decay.... (I used them barely actually!) AT does not give me maintenance tips either.

How about your experience? Is this normal? There should be another material already... but I expected to be original.
I am very happy with the sound actually.
