can you buy replacement sockets?

the one on the motherboard is getting dodgy and there sometimes isn't proper contact between the plug and socket so you only get one channel, attenuation and so on.

I know that it's probably a waste of time and so on, but is something I wouldn't mind trying just for the DIY aspect of it and in the odd chance it every happens again to another motherboard or soundcard that is actually worth fixing.

If you can't replace the parts look at soldering a new one via cables to the pins of the old one. But first check if the motherboard doesn't have a pin header for this. Many motherboards for years have had headers to connect front mounted audio leads.
