Hi folks.

I have a pair of Ultrasone Edition 8 with "Ethiopian sheepskin leather" earpads and headband. The leather is still sort of fine after the years, but the foam has collapsed to nothing.

Would you recommend I cut them open from the back and replace the foam inside, do people do that? If yes, what foam would you suggest?

If you have the skills, the foam is available at fabric stores. Just have to go with something the same density. I was pad rolling the other day and one with lighter foam resulted in a huge loss of bass.

I just got a big order of headphone pad foam from Aliexpress and it works great. If you search there for computer filter foam, or range hood foam for denser sheets. It was $1.50 for a big sheet, and now custom cutting them to tune different headphones brighter or warmer. The range hood foam is like Sennheiser foam, it's thicker and harder to see through. The computer fan is the thinnest and most transparent. Great for Dan Clark Audio stuff, the felt for me is too veiled. Regular foam on the Aeon closed is just right. Going to spend time cutting from old foam I have to use as patterns.

Yes, replacing the foam in your Ultrasone Edition 8 earpads is a common modification, and many audiophiles do this to restore comfort and sound quality. You can carefully cut the earpads open from the back to access the foam. For the replacement foam, high-density memory foam or acoustic foam is a good choice as it provides both comfort and sound isolation. Make sure the new foam matches the size and shape of the original to maintain the fit. Just take care during the modification to avoid damaging the leather.

Thank you! Can you say a bit more on how to cut them open? Any video or other advice I'd really welcome :-)

Nice! What did you search in Aliexpress to find this? I can't seem to locate it.
