Removing DRM

I've really had it with DRM. I often play music from my main computer over my network. The DRM stops me from playing much of it. I own all this music on CD (or rather I borrow it since purchasing a CD doesn't seem to give me the right to use it how I will, never mind that I don't pirate it).

Can anyone recommend DRM removal software?

I dont understand, if you own the music on CD why cant you rip it to a DRM-free format?

Sorry, you're right. Though I mentioned CDs what I was actually thinking of were my downloaded music (legal, I paid for them). On the other hand, all my Beatles stuff, which I own, won't play over the network via WMP today, so maybe the crux of the problem is WMP? Either way, I'd like to remove the DRM from my purchased downloads.

Google "QTFairUse6". I used it to remove DRM from my legacy iTunes Store purchases and thereby use them in Foobar and Rockbox. It works like a charm. And it's freeware.

Mind you I live in Canada where such conduct in relation to music that I purchased is still legal. I understand that in the States it may be a crime even to modify files that you lawfully own...

When you record using WMP, you have to uncheck the DRM/copy protection box.

You probably have a problem in the way you have set up your software or network. I don't think it should matter to WMP whether a file is stored on a hard drive, network storage, or any other sort of storage device.
Your comment on borrowing makes no sense, assuming you are not talking about something illegal.

Well, I'm pretty sure I have my network set up just fine, I don;t have trouble with anything else, just the downloaded stuff (mostly from MusicMatch).

As for my comment about borrowing, I suppose it does read somewhat obscure. What I meant to convey is that media companies (usually software) are wont to say that consumers aren't actually buying a product just the right to use it.

I think that refers to not discussing it for the purpose of stealing music. We are not discussing that.

I'm talking about tracks I've ripped from albums I own.

Removing DRM, even from downloads you've bought legally, is a violation of the DMCA. That's why I stay away from music downloads altogether.

Not that it's relevant to the rules here, but removing DRM is illegal in the United States. Most other countries have saner laws.
