What do you think of this circuit for regulating batteries some more?

Need almost 30V to get +/-12 I guess. And about 20mA extra current draw.

Anyone think it would make any difference? Or is it better to go for bigger batteries, like lead-acid or something.

batteries are generally not regualted because linear regulators are very iinefficient (anything above the output is simply given off as hear), and once the battery drops below the regulator voltage, the regulators do nothing....

and its a waste of a precious El2008 to put in in the power supply

What are you trying to power?

Anything with a low power requirement, such as most SS headphone amps, I'd rather run on rechargeable batteries of some type, as they are absolutely ripple free and pretty steady output.

A plug in power supply is going to have to be pretty expensive in terms of components and will NEVER be as solid and clean as batteries.

Of course, a 200 wpc tube amp would require a battery big enough to fill the average house, and it's own power plant for charging. Unless you could be content to just listen in 5 minute increments
