rega apollo versus cambridge 740C or 840C

I had the Apollo and the 740C, both are long gone, the Apollo plain old ommitted some detail and had a steely high frequency that would pop up. The 740C is just bland and overprocessed sounding. Of course that's my opinion and in my system.

For less money, I'd take Opera Consonance Linear... much better than both the Rega or CA. The 840C had that artificial glare in the treble that people often refer to as digital 'sheen.' Just couldn't believe in the sound as music.

look on audiogon...there are a ton of excellent choices. Out of those two I would go with the rega.I never cared for cambridge and I had a rega planet for a while and loved it.

Though I'm sure that's what you hear, I couldn't disagree more.
Love my 840c and have been listening to it through a Classe CA-2200 and a pair of B&W 800Ds. It holds up wonderfully for what it is.

I'd ask [AK]Zip in a pm. He's got an Apollo and has listened to pabbi1's 840C.

Every piece of equipment can sound different in different systems so the best thing to do is try it out in your system if you can. What works in my system may not work so well in yours.
