Hi all, visions of a better TT have been racing around in my brain for... months now. I'd like to keep initial cost under $500 not including cart. I have two basic candidates so far:

1)Music Hall MMF-5
Pros-$450 gets it to my door setup with a good cartridge.
-Minimal mods can put me into MMF-7/P3 territory (true?)
Cons- Can't go much beyond that.

2)Some form of RB250 based table
Pros-Arm with mods is suitable for a much pricier TT in the distant future.
-Rega tables minus an arm are easy to find used and are relatively inexpensive (The plan: buy a new RB250 at $200 and a P3 table at $200 and spend $250 on the OL structural mod plus some rewiring and an acrylic platter and kill some giants. This is basically the Moth Alamo S table which Britaudio sells at $679 I think. Except maybe the table is a P2?)
Cons- A pain to collect everything.
-More expensive at the start and definitely more expensive at the finish.
-A lot of investment in the arm if I find I don't like the Rega "sound". Though reselling should be pretty easy.
-Exceeds my current budget
Anyway, any thoughts you guys have on this would be great. I've read up at the Asylum but I find that those guys really don't share my musical tastes at all compared to Head-fiers. I listen to Rock and Electronica mostly so I need a table with great dynamics. Refinement, looks and all that come second. Thanks for reading.
