You can't compare it to a zune because it only has line level analog outputs (or digital optical outputs). You need an amplifier stage somewhere in the audio chain.

Having said that I connected one up to my MisterX-P amp and DT990/250's and it was very clean and detailed. The output was very powerful. Much louder than an iRiver H140 or Rio Karma.

Last week when I was trying to decide on a source, it was going for right about $58 shipped (free shipping plus an extra 10% discount when you add it to your cart, but I got taxed as well). Out of curiousity, are you expecting the Redbook of this player to be better than the Arcam? I'm currently looking for a new CDP and I'm considering either the Arcam or Rega Apollo. I'm just wondering if I should get the 595 instead given the cost plus the addition of SACD.

I will send the digital signal via a coaxial cable to my Musical Fidelity X-Dac V3 which IMO sound better than the Arcam. So all I need is a cheap transport.

I thought the ce595 had an optical only... meaning you'll need a converter for the coax in, which I can send to ya if you want...
