I did a search and found many "ancient" postings about the HD650. Rather than dig an old thread up I thought I'd start a new discussion about dusting off these wonderful headphones that I had long negleted.

Recently I purchased a iFi Neo iDSD 2 and I finally got around to giving the HD650 (with Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable) a long listen to them using Qobuz. As I listen to Steve Mason- Brothers & Sisters I really came to appreciate the nice soundstage, clear, tight, crisp bass, and the mid frequencies. I'm hearing a lot of musical nuances that frankly I'm not hearing from many of my headphones. Peter Gabriel's I/o sound great also!

What I do remember, as I wear them today, how comfortable they are. My only long term disappointment has been that the front and the back edge of the headband are flacking again. Some time ago I sent them back to Sennheiser and they fixed that issue. But it didn't take long for that to come back (part of the reason I kind of ignored them for a while). Silly me I suppose it is the sound, not the look of the headphones that really count.

Anyone else still loving this overlooked headphone? What's your equipment chain look like. I'm wondering if these would sound good with tubes???

I just bought a secondhand ser about a week ago. They are with Dekoni pads, but just now I ordered a set of stock pads, as I want to hear them "as intended" by Sennheiser.
They have a great engaging midrange for sure, but I must say they get a bit too much in the upper bass, when using them with my tube amp. For most music, I prefer them on my SS amp.
I'll see if that changes with the stock pads.

But a great pair of cans for the price 👌
