The ever hard to classify Swedish group Machinae Supremacy have finally released their second album "Redeemer", and boy is it one energy packed and fun album.

They have some of the most strange yet entertaining music that just sort of grows on you. So what exactly is SID Metal you ask? It's the product of mixing hardcore classic video game nerds with high energy metal and maybe even some punk influences.

Basically, a good portion of their music is either video game themed or inspired. They mix in lots of effects using the Commodore 64 SID sound chip to get that lovely video game music feel. If you listen closely you can pick out themes in their music from all sorts of classic video games.

Best of all, they're advocates of filesharing so you can download much of their music for free from their website. If you want to get a good feel for what they're like, I'd suggest trying:

Attack Music, Steve's Quest, the Sidology trilogy, Gianna Sisters, Arcade, Multiball, Cryosleep

They also have available for download the entire soundtrack they wrote for the video game "Jets 'n Guns" which is very good. In fact the new album incorporates lots of the different sounds from the soundtrack with their original style from the first album.

Sorry if this comes off sounding like an advertisement, but I can't stop listening to their new album right now.

Besides, unsigned (and excellent) bands need all the promotion they can get.
