I just got home from the theatres, went to see Red Dragon and really enjoyed it. Anyone else seen this movie yet? Let's hear what you think about RD.

I enjoyed it. There were a few scenes where they appeared to have been written right after watching Psycho though. Hopkins was good as usual in his role. I have Manhunter on DVD and may watch it tonight again and compare the two. I still think I enjoyed the book Red Dragon more than either movie.

See, I always thought that "Manhunter" was the prequel to "SOTL". Now "Red Dragon" is claiming this. Is it that "Manhunter" was only based on the character, but "Red Dragon" stems directly from the book of the same title? Or what?

What's the real deal (so I don't have to do my own 'net search

)?

Red Dragon = remake of Manhunter. That's where the confusion is.

It's like original Psycho vs New Psycho.

Personally, I haven't seen red dragon yet. I'm 16.

I believe Manhunter came out before silence of the lambs, thus Red Dragon is the real prequel to SOTL.

Biggie.

The order things came out:

1. Red Dragon (1981) the book

2. Manhunter (1986), the first movie Hannibal appeared in. If you watch it take note of the different spelling of Hannibal's last name in the Tattler clippings ant the credits.

3. Silence of the Lambs (1991)

4. Hannibal (2001)

5. Red Dragon (2002) the movie

I still think the ending in Manhunter is the best of the two movies. In a gada divida fits so well.

This is top on my list of movies to see. I wanted to see it last night but couldn't make it to two movies and couldn't convince myself to postpone Spirited Away.

It bugs me a little bit that this is referred to as a remake of Manhunter. Manhunter was a movie adaptation of the book Red Dragon. The Red Dragon movie is a movie adaptation of the book Red Dragon. The Manhunter movie needed never exist in order for the Red Dragon movie to exist so how is it a remake? It's not, it's just another adaptation.

Of course, confusion arises when some directors take liberties of making referneces to the first adaptation of a book to film in their own. Planet of the Apes is an example of this. :P
