OK OK, this isn't about receiving sound quality, but it is about sound quality in a portable.

I like to take samples of stuff just all over the place, and the occasional bootleg. For this currently I use a Sharp MD player/recorder with a nice little condenser mic. It works pretty well, but not great. Plus, I would prefer to move to fully digital, and not have to worry about disc media.

So, the question is:

Are there any good quality digital recorders out there with a mic input? I'm thinking of something that could take .wav files or something like that. Any suggestions?

i have a friend who records on to a Sonyt Picturebook. he also listens to music through his system w/ the picturebook. That way he can record ANd listen in 24 bit. If you want the ultimate sound, I think this would be the bomb-diggity: Preamp/ A/D, Mics, Picturebook. You need to build your own cables and batteries, which is no biggie.

Maybe one day...

I guess for now I'll stick with my MD setup and be happy. I was just wondering if anyone knew of consumer-priced goods out there that would fit the digital recording bill.
