Hello, I was wondering what headphones are generally (common consensus) considered crème de la crème within the price range of 1000-1500 USD. I was going to purchase a Shure Se846 as I believed that it would be the best purchase in the 1000-1200 USD range, but after looking at companies such as Noble, JH Audio, Weston, Campfire Audio and Unique Melody it made me start to question if it would not be better to save a bit more and purchase from one of said companies (JH16v2, Angie, Campfire Vega, etc.).

If it matters I would be pairing it with a Chord Mojo DAC/Amp. Listening habits are electro, house, and metal predominantly, would probably like anything that makes Kavinsky sound great. Generally listen to music in environments whose noise levels vary between 30-80dBm. Would happy to provide any other information if necessary. Theres no place near where I live to test audio equipment so I can't try before I buy.

Some tracks to consider (all safe for work):

Zamba de Vargas - Los Cantores del Alba: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Oh5N46fEkc
Agarrate Catalina - La Violencia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_8VtUfAKn4
Kavinsky - Nightcall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV_3Dpw-BRY

I'm interested in this question as well-- I am also in the market for IEMs, primarily for electronica and house music with a budget between 1000-1500.

I initially found shures 846 as well, but now have moved on to deciding between campfire vega or andromeda.

I would appreciate if you could expand on your answer. Have you personally tried the IEMs? What have/do you compare(d) them against? Are there any particular characteristics that you felt they posessed (positive or negative)? What particular genre do you think they best work with?

I don't want to seem ungrateful for the answer, I simply want to get a better idea of which IEMs people have compared against to get a better sense of value as well as what the trade-offs between top contenders are. I don't want a comprehensive review, just a line or two of personal experience (and if you have done a review I'd appreciate a link) since I can't go out and actually test them myself.

Sorry for the bump, but hoping to get at least two votes for a particular headphone before considering the matter settled.

You may want to checkout the below thread, quite a few answers there:

Thanks for the link, from the comments the Vega is definitely looking like one of the best options and our tastes seem to be similar.

My pleasure friend, I'm ordering the vega next week as well -- I have a friend who just ordered the andromeda, so I'll pass along my thoughts once I'm able to experience them both. Let me know your thoughts as well!

Exciting right!?

Here I was thinking my bose qc25 were "end game"'

Yeah I was thinking of at most moving towards a Noble Encore, especially if I could get it used for 1500 USD, otherwise I was going to go with the Vega (I like that the earphones are sturdy and the cable appears to screw on to keep from yanking off). I'll keep out an eye for reviews of it though.

Actually now that I look at this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/730349/vision-ear-v-6-custom-iem-thread the post says it's a CIEM. I need the IEM to be universal.

I know I'm a newbie here, but I've read countless of posts, prob too many. I think it boils down to vega vs andromeda for best bang for your buck considering top of the line. Dynamic drivers vs BA and from the looks of it, music taste leaning towards acoustics and wide soundstage should go andromeda, bass heavy intimate soundstage should go vega.

I believe you completely, but you never know when someone wants to drop a 1850-2000 USD headphone for 1000-1500 USD just because it's used and they want to upgrade  I'm still a month or two off from purchasing (Argentina is going through some restructuring in terms of importation legislation), but I have definitely decided on a Chord Mojo and the Vega if no interesting offers appear in terms of used IEMs.

Totally understand, if you don't mind me asking what tipped the scales for you between the vega and andromeda!?
