I've had my Sennheiser HD 595 cans for a few years now, and sadly I'm bored with them. They're great cans, but I want something new and exciting. I use a PA2V2 amp. I like to feel the bass. I listen to rap, game music, classical, rock, metal, you name it--depends on my mood. I'd go for the Sennheiser HD 800 cans, but they're currently out of my price range. Anything <$600 is considered, but I'm looking to spend $200-300. My top choices are currently Sennheiser HD 650 and Beyerdynamic DT-880. What do you all recommend I do to improve my audio listening experience?

I've considered Grados, but I can't get over the fact that they look old-fashioned. Also, I'm concerned that they will be uncomfortable. I'm used to circumaural cans with lots of soft cushion. Grados seem to sit right on the ear. Also, the SR-80 are only $80 on the forum here. I tend to believe that you get what you pay for, and they're kind of inexpensive lol.

Does it matter which version of the DT-880s I purchase? I see some on eBay for $299.99 - are those okay? I looked through like 9 pages of the for sale / trade on these boards and couldn't find a single one for sale. All I found were DT-770 and DT-990, but the 770s are not high enough quality, while the 990s have apparently too much bass.

I must also ask if the PA2V2 is sufficient for driving the DT-880 and HD 650.

Dont let the oldfashioned look put you off Grados, that stopped me buying them for ten years. The SR80i,s come with comfy pads, you dont know your wearing them.I just thought ,for £100 it was worth a try.Very glad i did.Cheers.

I have the HD595 as well as the HD650 (although not the beyer). I think you would get a very nice sonic upgrade by moving to the HD650.
