or look into the for sale forum or there was a thread a short while back where you can get them for under 60 shipped i believe. shop around more. i also recommend the grado sr-60 if that's the price range.

sennheiser px100s are nice too. not as in your face as the grados but still do sound warm and fun overall. much cheaper, about half the price too.

If your friend needs isolation though, AKG's K81DJ may be the way to go...there is a really long thread about it these phones that has been floating around page 1 since the phones were released.
