On Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Toawards Ecstacy" CD, there is a hidden version of "Possession" at the end of the song, "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy" where there is only Sarah's singing and a soft piano in the background. I think it's really cool and a good way to see how good the singer's pipes are. Amy Lee of Evanescence has a similar thing going on with "My Immortal," though there it is just more of an acoustic version of the electric song.

I am looking for more songs like these where a group/artist redoes a popular "electric" song in either unplugged fashion, or more bare bones. Any suggestions? I'm particularly interested in haunting or sultry female vocals. Thanks!

I can't think of many cover bands with great female lead singers. But as far as pared down Americana music where the female voice really shines, you might want to try Neko Case "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood".

Nothing says sultry female vocals to me like Jennifer Charles of Elysian Fields. She has a very distinct hushed and breathy delivery. She can also be heard doing vocals on "Cruel Sunlight" on Tweaker's 2 A.M. Wakeup Call.
