I was playing with the K701 and the Supermacro-III (on loan) w/ and w/o bassboost and the K701 can actually be very funky w/ bassboost on! Without bassboost, it's a bit neutral, which is really good for certain genres.

Sounds like you should try an MDR-SA5000 or a HD650. SA5000 is quicker, cooler, less veiled and does vocals surprisingly well. HD650 is just a great all-rounder. I wouldn't recommend the HD600 - not enough fun, esp. if you enjoy the Grado. Or keep the Grado's and buy and HD600 or HD580 for contrast.

1.Grado HF-1. Seems that they have a very warm and pleasant sound, not like other Grado's. However I didnt tried them myself.
2.Maybe AKG K701/601 ( on my wish list )
3.Oldie AKG K340 ( on my wish list ) With your budget you can mod them.
