I can't control the volume in my laptop?

You can (whether via your computer's master volume control or your player's volume control), but there are reasons you probably shouldn't.

As covered above, connecting your laptop's headphone outputs directly to a speaker amp can result in lower sound quality than connecting to a DAC first. (And perhaps even noise.)

Much of the time, controlling the volume on the computer will not be bit-perfect and can also result in lower sound quality.

If you accidentally have too high volume on the computer, it could make the speakers blast too loudly and potentially damage your hearing.

And it's simply not very convenient to control the volume on your computer compared to being able to instantly twist a volume knob.
