My import CD of Necronomicon - Tips Zum Selbstmord came in today, and after a few listens it's probably the most badass album I bought this year.

Any other recommendations for good kraut or kraut/psych. Some of my other favorites are Dungen and Circle (technically speaking not kraut, but similar enough style). I suppose I'm looking to get more into classic kraut as I haven't heard much.

Thanks.

Faust

Have fun.

Great list of classic Krautrock bands. The one major omission is Can.

I would also add a few more classic bands:

Agitation Free (more on the progressive side)
Embyro (also pressive and world-music oriented)
Popol Vuh (more new-age/ambient)
Kraftwerk

I wouldn't really call Nektar Krautrock. UFO and Magma, even aside from not being German, are definitely NOT Krautrock.

Magma is an absolutely awesome band, though.

I second the reccos for Amon Duul 2, Neu!, Can, Faust, Agitation Free, Guru Guru, and Popol Vuh. Some other good ones: Xhol/Xhol Caravan, Ash Ra Tempel, the 1970 Missus Beastly s/t album. Not really Krautrock per se but one of my favorite experimental German groups is Einsturzende Neubauten.

Yeah, I forgot Xhol Caravan and Ash Ra.

Some more obscure 60's/70's groups:

DOM -- one totally tripped out album, "Edge of Time"
Brainticket -- also fairly psychedelic -- especially "Cottonwoodhill"
Dzyan -- more progrock-- try "Electric Silence"
Siloah -- the original acid-folk, tribal sound. Similar to some Amon Duul, but more acoustic. Really had only two studio albums.
