No Liz Phair fans around here? Or even better:

PJ Harvey

Sonic Youth (love it when Kim Gordon is out front)

a quick hit to a couple of youtubes of The Gathering tunes would suggeset in that vien assuming you tend towards their harder stuff 'cause it's all I got...

Lacuna Coil
Flyleaf (maybe)
Evanescence

A quick look at my Pandora.com station based on Lacuna Coil suggests

Guano Apes
A late German band lead by Sandra Nasic. Noteworthy songs are their hits Open Your Eyes and a cover of Big In Japan

No Doubt
You can think what you want about Gwen Stefani's current music, but in No Doubt she sang some pretty decent rock songs.

I gotta throw in another recommendation for Within Temptation. The singer is tremendously talented with what she can do with her voice. It's a breath of fresh air for me when my playlist shuffles to Within Temptation.

Garbage (my absolute fav female artist in a band, Shirley Manson has a terrific voice and the attitude and style of singing is great). Listen to "Bad Boyfriend" from their album "Bleed like Me"for a sample

X whatever on Within Temptation, good vox

Atrox (very very strange vocals, takes getting used to, not for everyone)

Nightwish
Lacuna Coil
Hole (Love her, hate her, you cant deny that she has made some good hard rock songs)
Cowboy Junkies (softer stuff I guess, but a solid groove based band, check out Lay It Down)

Asobi Seksu?
The Fiery Furnaces.

I also love me some Georgia led Yo La Tengo. Well, I love ALL Yo La Tengo, but still, Georgia is pretty awesome.

Edit: Also, The Kills. They also split female/male vocals, but man, I love this band. I don't get why nobody seemed to get on board with their last album, I guess the damn pitchfork rating.
