Every Paul McCartney solo and "Wings" album made through 1976 is better than the Beatles. It climaxes with the live triple-album Wings Over America, then Paul went into creative decline. Happens to all of us.

Not the best music being made at the time, but the best in the pop/rock genre, as you specified. Just my 2 cents, of course.

Better than The Beatles? And no every wings record prior to 76 is not as good as most Beatles. But that said.....

If you're looking for rock from that period which is on par with The Beatles most creative masterpieces and in a similar vain......look no further than Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys, Forever Changes by Love and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd........those can be classified as brilliant offshoots of The Beatles' sound.

If you like the Kinks and The Zombies, check Wiki to see if any of the members were parts of another group or had solo work.

Gotta admit I like the fighting Davies Bros. Donovan kind of reminds me of some of the Kinks music.
