Topic. I've just got myself this highly regarded (best Sony headphone out)Discman which immediatly confronted me with this headphone dilema:
Senn HD580? - My Head-Fi mate's got them with his D211 and is reportedly very happy with the combination. I have not heard them though and sort of not sure.
D66 Eggos? - Duncan has used them for his biblical review, they've got tremendous reviews from COUNTLESS people at AudioCubes, They are 40 ohm> easy to drive...
Senn px 100/200/250? - Duncan has mentioned 250s somwtime in one of the threads...
Basicly: are Eggos and other low Z phones at maximum of their ability (I'm sure D211 will take them to the max

) are better then HD580 at their 60-70% (cause unamped)?
Any sort of help from Head-Fi discman gurus would be greatly appreciated

Haven't had the chance to hear HD580's but I've used the D66's with the D-211 and it is easily driven thru the headphone out. Also tried the A700's thru the D-211 and so far this has been my favorite set so far when I want to go ampless. The A700's is easily driven thru the D-211 and nothing seems to be lacking for my listening needs. Also I have tried the DT 531 and DT 770/80 with the D-211 and will they both don't need an amp I felt they didn't sound as good as the A700 going ampless. Both Beyers to me didn't sound near it's potential unamped, when amped both Beyers kick some serious bass and mids seem fuller.

For portable, I used the ksc-75. Sounds good /w the d211. At home, (IME) Hd650 + dt880 work well. Nice backup/work rig.

Can't go wrong with the Koss KSC-35's or ksc-75.

I am using Audio Technica ATH-A900's on my vintage sony PCD players
(D-35, D-303, and D-555) and it sounds great amped and unamped.
The A900's sound great with any source, and amped I can really
feel/listen to the bass slam while the highs remain clear.

Good Luck.
