i just got my first pair of good headphones yesterday, and they are the ath a700 from audio technica. they work very well with css, i had to go to my friends house and play a pc game, i used to play cs1.6 and unfortunetly css is the only game he had... but im sure this headset works well with other games.these do not require a amp. in fact, these work well with my tiny mp3 player, so they (to me) seem fine with a small power source. you dont need an amp for this pair, just a good sound card, and if you call yourself a gamer, then you have one of those
.
i am very pleased with the performance of these headphones, and they couldnt be better for gaming... although i did come from some earbudz and a $30 voIP headset from logitech, so anything that is 'audiophile' level will sound good to me ;P
be warned, these are the biggest headphones ive ever seen, or worn for that matter... although, these are the only full size circumaural ive worn besides icemat's siberia 'gaming' headphones and the bose triports. these are much better than the icemats even with the usb sound card that i specifically meant for those paticular pair. i will admit that the icemats are *slightly* more comfortable than the ath a700. youll be fine with these, they are comfortable enough, And they have better sound
if your doing online gaming, then you need a mic obviously. i think the Zalman ZM-MIC1 mic will do fine, it attaches to the headphones cord and is small and good.
get these for gaming and music, they dont require an amp and are very good.
i got my pair for $130 with shipping and tax, i got lucky i guess...
but just be warned, these things surprised me with their size, if you think icemats are big, think agian. they are so big, my mom wont let me take them to school
so i have to resort to my bad earbudz
these sound paticulary well with Juno Reactor...
