I like the 5.1 entry level offering from Logitech. I find them to be a great value.

If you want a nice neat desk without having to deal with a satellite, I hardily recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. Very nice soundstage and excellent mids/vocals. That said, I recently bought a pair of monsoon speakers off ebay, too. The lowest end pair they made. Very sweet treble and fantastic clarity. All in all, better than the Klipsch, if you don't mind the sometimes crapshoot of buying used.

Yes, the ProMedia speakers are excellent. They are my favorite, cost no object, made for PC speakers.
