So I'm saving up for a new Dell system, and the surround-sound speakers they offer don't look like they're very good; all the reviews I've read about Altec Lansing speakers say they're all pretty mediocre. Can someone recommend a good set of 5.1 or 6.1 computer speakers that won't cost me too much?

I hear good things about the Monsoon MH-505. Anyone with experience with 'em care to comment?

Screw it, get a mini-RCA adapter, and just plug it into your headphone rig.

I don't know what your max price is, but here are few very good speaker systems.

Altec Lansing 251 - $100
Logitech Z-640 - $100
Klipsch Promedia GMX D-5.1 - $300
Creative MegaWorks THX 6.1 - $400

You can also go here where they review 7 5.1 + 6.1 systems: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...,662467,00.asp

Ditto that. Last summer when I was looking for a 4.1 system, I auditioned the Monsoon MX2000 and the Klipsh Promedia 4.1s... I ultimately went with the Promedias, but am less then satisfied with them for music playback... I suppose they are fun for gaming (if I gamed), or multimedia (if I didn't have an HT), but I'd strongly reccomend you re-allocating that 400 dollars to a non-multimedia rig.
