I will use them for rts/rpg games, and also fps games (where being able to hear enemy positions is very important)

I can't afford these $150 headphones you guys use. To give you an idea, I am using a $6 pair of DCT Factory HP259, but they just broke and this time I'd like to pay more money for a better/higher quality headphones.

I am willing to spend up to $100, but if there wasn't much difference for gaming between a $40 and a $100 pair, I'd much rather save the money.

So far from my research, it seems like choices are Sony MDR-XD200, Sennheiser HD201 on the low end, and Audio-Technica 500 on the high end.

I'd like phones that cover my entire ears, I tried my friend's Sennheiser HD-570, which is discontinued now, but it was very comfortable.

I DO NOT listen to music at all, when I do listen to music, which is like once a month, I just use my speakers.

Thanks

Audio-Technica ATH-A500. Simply amazing for gaming. It's exactly $99 from audiocubes. Also, it will be the most comfortable headphone you have ever worn, even more so then the sennheiser. It will also be a lot better than any headphones you have right now for music.

I'll say it before anyone else, A500's

I heard they are quite similar to the A900's. Though I dont play online RPG's, I do use them for Counter-Strike, and they are very nice and accurate when you need to locate enemies by gunfire or by footsteps. They're very nice and precise, you can hear the timely difference and make out an enemies distance with them. Very nice indeed.

doh! 003 beat me to it

Heck for gaming PX100 or KSC75 for the money. Maybe Koss Portapro. I've been gaming w/ mt ATH-FC7, great sound and bass, but not as 3d dimensional as I like.

welcome to headfi, lock your wallet away.

Now, another question, I'll be plugging it into my Karajan Audio Module on a DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D, do I need an amp?

Nah. For gaming, you don't need an amp. Just keep the cost low.

ATH-FC7 on audiocubes.com for $55
KSC75 regular price at $19.95 from headphone.com
PX100 at BestBuy.com for $49.95
