I'm in the market for a new headphone.  The only headphone I have is a Sennheiser 215.
 
So i want to upgrade and not sure what's best for me.
 
OPEN or CLOSED - i think i want to try an OPEN one this time. 
 
BUDGET - max $400
 
I like to listen to acoustic/live/unplugged music.  I prefer where i hear every detail of the instruments clearly.  like I'm there with the artist.  
 
I also will use this on my desktop for watching movies and some games.
 
My DAP is Hidizs AP100
 
i don't have any headphone amp and might buy one but later this year.
 
Any suggestions?

There are many good choices for this:

Philips X2
Beyerdynamic DT880
AKG K702
HiFiMan HE400

If you want to try an open headphone, I guess it's for home use. For portable use I never recommend open headphones.
 
Looking at your preferences and budget I'd recommend:
Sennheiser HD600 (warmer sound)
Beyerdynamic DT880 (more annalytical, faster and a bit more energetic)
AKG K702

for the DT880.. i see there are different kinds of ohm rating?  are there any differences bet. them?  (sorry, im just a newbie).

Yes, there is 32 ohm, 250 ohm and 600 ohm. You can read about the difference here under DT880:

They will need amp that can drive them proberly though. (If it's 250 or 600 ohm)
