Hi, I am looking for a headphone that can give me heart thumping bass alot with a nice soundstage for immersive gaming.   I have tried the HD598 and AD700 both were too anemic for my taste. 
 
I am not into competitive gaming I just want a nice immersive big bassy experience when gaming.
 
I have boiled it down between the M-Audio Q40 and DT 770 Pro-80.  Please help me choose and if someone can recommend a better headphone for my needs please do.
 
I wil be using an Xonar STX to Power them.  Also my budget is 250.00

Grab a pair of Denon D2000, while you still can. It's hard to find a HP that delivers more immersive experience than D2000.

he doesn't have an amp for those, so try the dt770's, pro's, simple, all versions

D7000 doesn't need an amp, at all. A decent sound card will drive the Q701.

In that price range the D2000 would be a lot of fun, no amp needed for those either.

Thanks for all the replies.  I think I will be going with the Denon D2000.  Just a question.  Is the bass of the Denon D2000 significantly stronger than the HD 598?

Ok Just ordered a d2000 for 225 at electronics expo, I would of had it for less but had to pay 7% sales tax NJ.

DT 770 has way too bright treble which may give a little headache. I´m coming from XB500 and tried DT770 pro 80. DT770 had too much treble and lacking mids and upper bass (not sure). DT990 could be better if treble isn't too harsh. I´m going to test h598, q40 & DT990 pro..

I have been reading that the output impedance of the xonar stx is too high for my Dennon D2000.  Should I go with a Headstreamer opposed to the Xonar STX?  The Headstreamer has less than 1ohm output impendance.

I have the D5000 which is very close to the D2000 in bass department, so I strongly suggest you get them an amp, believe me it'll make a night and day difference in the bass (with fiio e6, i don't know how much desktop amp can do ). and it's ok if you don't want to spend much on amps, just get the fiio e6 for about 20$ and it has more than enough power for them, also bass boost option. it's a no-brainer deal.
and stay away from akg-70x if you wanna feel the bass physically.
