Me and my friends have gotten hooked in poker recently and were looking for a good brand for poker cards and a good card shuffler. Many say shufflers dont work, do any of you guys know a good brand? No budgets

Back in my serious poker playing days, we wore out decks of cards so fast it didn't really matter what kind we used. (usually 12 packs of bicycle cards from costco, or casino decks from vegas)

And I always did the shuffling since anyone else doing it really annoyed me. Too slow, or flashing me the bottom cards. I could deal seconds and bottoms pretty well back then, but it wasn't common knowledge and I didn't cheat for money.

I like Bee playing cards. I've been playing a lot of poker lately (haven't we all) at different places, and Bee cards just stand out a little to me. They slide on the table just the right amount and have a good feel. I'm no expert though.

edit: did I read that right? No Budget? The game is so much more enjoyable with good chips. Go for heavy clay ones, which can be a little pricey.

Yep we just ordered a 500pc clay chip set. Plus we built a 10-man poker table which we topped off with some thin foam a good billiard table cloth over it

Cards made by KEM and Copag are supposed to be really nice, their 100% plastic so you can clean them if they start to get dirty. They don't get bent out of shape nearly as easily as your typical playing cards either. But they'll run you about 10$ a deck i think, they last a good deal longer though so it should pay off in the end.

Good plastic playing cards basically don't fold and never wear out. (You can wash em on a spin cycle too!) You can even get super-cheap plastic decks online for $2 or so. However I've heard anecdotal reports that those cards are generally more brittle than KEM and have a slight tendency to chip around the sides. And when you DO fold plastic cards, it is nigh impossible to unfold em.

I have a pair of KEM decks at home I bought at Casino Connection for $20. Very overpriced there but it was still a great investment.

I know this is a little old thread, but at least I didnt start a new one with same topic!

I just got my new COPAG 100% plastic cards today and they are absolutely awesome. They were the type used in the World Series of Poker 2005 and now I know why those people can bend up those cards so sharply without creasing them. These are absolutely awesome. I tested the guarantee the first day. I placed one in a cup of coffee with sugar. Wiped absolutely clean.

We play about 5 hrs of texas-holdem a week. We play with two decks at a time so there is a constant shuffle. I was tossing a deck of Bicycle decks every week, since I am really picky. Plus one guy always seems to get them sticky. I used to give them to one of the other guys (hey they like freebies, cheap buzzards!) but then I would get stuck with them when I played at their house. So I learned to give them to my 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 yr olds.

I will always at least buy the quality of COPAG 100% plastics. Don't know about KEM, but there has been a lot of quality control issues posted on the web. COPAGS about $15.00 for two decks with free shipping on eBay.

By the way, I quickly learned that there are two sizes of cards as well as at least two indexes:
POKER SIZE are 2 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" long
Bridge Size are 2 1/4" wide by 3 1/2" long
WIDE index-wide numbers-good for the FLOP, but a little big in hand
Normal index or small index-skinny numbers-great for hand, small for near-sighted players on a flop.

Another hint: I found this site about building your own poker tables http://www.homepokertourney.com/tables_build.htm Everyone loves mine though it is crap, but better than the kitchen table.

Also, a FREE (or donation) software that is absolutely great for running a home tourney. It's a great way to keep track of BLINDS
