Right now, I have it paired to a Grado GS1000, sounds good for most music I listen to, but can be rather wild with male vocalists that sing with high pitched vocals.

Budget und $200

Preferably something non-planar something that's not a bass canon, and something that's not anemic either, open or closed, just looking for ideas.

Maybe a bit dark with the upper treble recessed.

I like various genres of music, from gospel music to heavy metal and almost everything in between.

I would look at the HD58X or 6XX in that price range.

I decided to try a Philips SHP9600.

I think it sounded like what I was looking for and the price was easy on the wallet.
If I hate it, I can send it back.

If you don't like the fit or comfort of the SHP9600 (I had the SHP9500), then check out the Philips Fidelio X3 (I have the X2) as well.
Thanks, I might try those out to, they do look comfy.

However, the biggest question is, "How do they sound?"
