I'm considering getting the Panasonic SL-CT582V and would like to find out if anyone has tried using third-party rechargeable NiMH AAA cells as internal batteries for this player.

You can mod other rechargeable batteries -- but you'll have to be careful doing so. Unmodded, regular rechargeable batteries will not charge at all in any Panasonic PCDP.
