Over the last couple of years ive been running a 3.5mm jack from the back of my sound card to split RCA cables going to my receiver. Ive noticed that when I play audio through the computer (all lossess btw) that the detail is not as sharp and crisp as when it's coming off my CD Player> Receiver.

So I finally bought a new Yamaha RX-V371 which has optical ins.
I plan to now use my optical out of my motherboard hooked directly up to the new receiver.

Questions about my new setup:

1. Optical is Lossless correct? Since I rip all my CD-R's in apple lossess, there will be 0.00 THD untill it hits my receiver. Essentially its like hooking up a USB cable and putting audio through it right? : )

2. Compared to my cd player, my new setup "should" sound better now straight out of the computer, due to the fact that my cd player is hooked up via RCA cables and adds its own (VerY minuscule THD distortion)

3. Is my logic sound?

The computer audio subsection is a better place to ask this question.

In answer to the question, yes.
