UM1's with the Shure Tri-Flange (modded to bi-flange).

Going to the UM2's ($350) is a significant upgrade from the E3c's. I highly recommend the UM2's!

For metal... definitely UM1. They sound better than E2. Comparing to E3cs they provide stronger bass and less powerful midrange, IMO they are just a bit more balanced than E3sc.

I've owned all three. The UM-1 is the one I decided to keep as a backup to my E4s.

i'd scrap the whole idea of e2g and just get the um1's. ive never tried the e3g, but the um1's dont really have that bloated feel of bass when compared to the e2g. i guess the um1's, in my opinion, dont really cloud the whole spectrum, and u still have the bass
