Can anyone reccomend a sound card to go with my Senn HD 580's?

how much do you want to spend? optical or coax, bit perfect, want to use it for games as well?

Not too terribly much a hundred or so if that's even possible... I'll be using it primarilly and almost completely with headphones... and yes I'll be doing a lot of gaming with it

i dont know much about them, but the creative X-Fi in some form is probably the go. great games card

An X-fi is great for games but bad for music, unless you have an external DAC. There is a small dac for $20 which is susposed to be similar to the Zhaolu, see the thread here:

I would highly recommend that to go with the X-fi.

I would just get the XtremeMusic.

Get the cheaper card, then invest $20 in a cmoy (maybe a used one?

Pity he only has about $100 to spend, and the av-710 isn't the greatest gaming soundcard

I really suggest he get the X-fi XtremeMusic along with a cheap cmoy or PA2V2, and that $20 DAC.

I have a PIMETA amp which I just got so I'm really only worried about the source now. What would the DAC do exactly?

It would convert the digital signal from the soundcard to an analog signal useable by your headphones and/or speakers.

Ok ok, not all DACs are created equal, and the ones on the X-fi are pretty poor. With an external DAC, the only downside is that you wont be able to use the onboard RAM on the X-fi, but since the XtremeMusic dosn't even have it thats not an issue.
