You might want to skip all that baroque (although I cannot get enough of J.S. Bach), classical and romantic period stuff

and go 20th century. My recommendation is to delve into the world of Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Morton Feldman, Cornelius Cardew, Edgard Varese, and Iannis Xenakis for some serious sound explorations. Many other greats but these guys are my favs.
