I bought the RE2s not long ago and have been using them at work and also while commuting to uni 2 days a week. They're great when I'm sitting still, but if I'm walking they have awful microphonics. I hear every knock as they move, hit my collar, etc. I also find the cable pretty stiff and it remembers bends from when it's coiled and doesn't hang straight which I find annoying.
I have some wire I bought from navships a while ago (yellow solid 30awg silver / teflon) and thought this might be good to re-cable with. I haven't done any tests, but I think it would be pretty flexible given how thin it is. I'd also be worried about it kinking and damaging the wire inside.
I'm also not going to try and open the drivers, I'd just cut the existing cable short and solder wire to wire and heatshrink it. I can then have some red and blue/black for right/left identification too.
What do you all think about the suitability of this wire for a re-cable job?
Will it still be prone to kinks if I twist 2 wires from each earpiece and braid from the Y?
Will it actually help with the microphonics?
In any case, I think it'd look pretty good with the yellow braided cable
