Hi,

I have been looking to upgrade my portable setup with a budget of $200~300.
Currently I mostly use B&O A8, ATH AD700 and er6i with Sony players NWZ-E47X and A86X.

After some digging it looks like I have a few choices:

1. Purchase a new receiver right now (HD598 looks very tempting at the moment)
2. Purchase an amp/DAC (E17 seems like the best choice for me from what I can tell)
3. Wait for FiiO X3
4. Get a new mp3 player (other than X3)
5. Save up for a purchase at a price range of $5~600

Of course I want to get the best bang for the buck right now, but it's more important to me that I'm making the most logical and sound (apologies for the bad pun) progression for my setup. It would be nice to try some of these options out in person but unfortunately I haven't had much luck in that front. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I vote go with new headphones as your current gear is decent enough for portable use.  Perhaps something like the Sennheiser Momentum, Sennheiser HD-25-1-ii, or Audio Technica ATH-M50.

Thanks. If I wanted to get an amp with these as well, how much additional should I expect do you think?
