I think it also has a lot to do with the source. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Sony A828 is a very bassy source. So the bass will have more impact than if you use the RE0s with a more bass light source like my Amp3 Pro 2.

Yes that is true , the A828 has clear bass which works very well with the RE0

RE0 bass is deep, very accurate, extremely detailed and there's just the right amount of it. And mids on RE0 are awesome too - smooth, natural and very transparent. RE0 is easily worth 4 times its current price of $79, compared to other universal IEMs that are out there now.
Build quality on RE0 is rock solid. Comfort depends on the tips used, but should be acceptable for most people.
Well my VB's have MORE bass and BETTER bass than my Atrio M5's which are usually considered the king of bass IEM's. The VB's also have better treble and mids then the Atrio's and the Atrio's cost twice as much as the VB's. While not a direct comparison to the RE0's don't sell the VB's short their sound quality reaches far above their price range.
The only thing holding me back from ordering these Hippos VBs is that I have read quite a lot about sibilance issues with them (even after burn in). Don't know if sibilance is the "norm" with these or if I'm just reading comments from a hand full of vocal folks that got duds. I'm also considering the Fischer Audio Eternas. It sounds as if the Hippos would be better if they were non-sibilant.
Yes its a rather strange issue. Me and a few others have reported a sibilance problem. After burn-in my issue is practically non existent and more than one person has also stated that after a thourough 150 hour+ burn-in the sibilance is no more a problem.
Then there are others like dkft and swanlee who have no sibilance to speak off right out of the box ! Its rather strange to see such a varying degree of opinions on the same product. In fact swanlee received 2 pairs of VBs and neither had any sibilance.

X5 has more quantity, but the RE0 extends lower IMO ( i have heard the X10 has a deeper bass than the X5, but you may like to check that)
Thinksound Rain: definitely the RE0 extends deeper, quantity a little more in the RE0 IMO.
The Re0 Bass does need Eq or amping to bring out its best, but when it does it is very nice.
Wow... that's pretty good! I really liked how low the X10 hit. I'm a basshead, but the appeal of the RE0 is strong!

The RE0s also had zero sibilance to speak off.
Hi,
That was another VB user that got 2 pairs and did the pre and post burn in tests.
Mine are pretty well burned in now and they have become a lot more laid back, almost a little to much.
Out of the box the treble was pretty high and bass really tight but after some serious burn in the treble is a lot more laid back and bass has become almost to loose but not anything detrimental. They do sound ALOT different to me after burn in but I'd still probably fail an ABX test comparing a brand new pair to my burned in ones.
After burn in these still beat my Atrio's in mids, highs and bass
